Summerfolk has unveiled the performers for this year’s Youth Discoveries finale concert.
The concert on Saturday, May 28 is set to go at the Owen Sound Legion and will feature seven acts. They will perform for a panel of judges to secure a spot in the 47th Summerfolk Music and Crafts Festival at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park this August.
The finalists from across Grey and Bruce counties, and as far as Huntsville, include: Theresa Walsh, Makenzy Williamson, Briar Summers, Camryn Ruthven, Aniah Ruthven, Gabe Rossitter, and Jake Corston.
The concert will feature both solo and duo performances.
The competition launched April 1 for youth between the ages of 14 and 22 and is the latest in Summerfolk’s youth mentorship program that started in the mid 2000s.
The program was put on hold due to the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, but is coming back in a hybrid model by taking virtual first round submissions, then holding an in person event this month
Youth Discoveries committee member Kimmer Trombley says they are really excited to restart this programming and see what the youth have been doing for the last two years.
“We can’t wait to see young performers on stage performing again and we really hope that our community will come out to this free event to support our youth,” says Trombley.
The show is for all ages and is free to attend. Donations will be accepted and the doors will open at 6 p.m., with the performances starting at 7 p.m.
The winners will be announced that evening.
