Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith will go on an unpaid leave of absence once the 28-day Provincial election campaign period starts.
Deputy Mayor Rick Maloney will take over Mayoral duties then.
It’s because Smith is running as the Progressive Conservative candidate for the riding in the June 2nd provincial election.
The decision to grant the unpaid leave happened at Townhall this week at General Committee. It still needs final council approval.
If he’s elected provincially, Smith would have to step down as Mayor.
Maloney is running for the Mayor’s seat in the October municipal election.
He could either continue in the Mayor’s position until then if Smith wins Provincially on June 2nd or another mayor could be appointed until then.
