A recent event in Port Elgin to raise money for Easter Seals Camps for kids with disabilities was a big success.
The Celebrity Hockey Classic event, which included a dinner with NHL alumni and a hockey tournament with them the following day raised over $100,000 according to Easter Seals.
Jackson Events brought on Doug Gilmour, Wendell Clark, Al Iafrate and Mike Krushelnyksi and Dennis Maruk for the event. They held a ‘hot stove’ talk and shared stories with guests at the dinner event, and then played in the tournament the following day.
Money was raised through dinner table and hockey game admissions, as well as by participating hockey teams who raised thousands of dollars in order to take part. There was also a silent auction.
The funding will enable kids with physical disabilities to go to Easter Seals’ summer camps.
Below is a February Open Line show on AM 560 CFOS in which Easter Seals Development Manager Charlene Myke talks about what the money helps to provide and what it means to the kids to be able to go to summer camp.
