The National Hockey League All Star Game will be conducted Saturday in Las Vegas.
Of course the game has become cause celebre, especially among the Colorado Avalanche who truly believe that Nazim Kadri should have been among the players chosen for the game.
And truthfully, the Avalanche are correct, there’s no denying that Kadri is having an all star season and was a major factor in Colorado hanging in there for a month or so when their star Nathan MacKinnon was absent.
With both Kadri and MacKinnon firing on all cylinders of late, the Avalanche moved to the top of the Central Division.
As for MacKinnon, he too makes a good point when he cites the process of having every NHL team have a player representative participating in the game.
MacKinnon remembers when the Avs were dreadful and he went to the All Star Game, knowing full well he didn’t belong and was occupying a space that belonged to a more deserving player at that time.
There have been all kinds of scenarios floated as to how upgrade the annual All Star Game.
Here’s mine……….
GET RID OF IT !!
I fully understand and appreciate the history of the game but outside of the Pro Bowl, I can think of no less meaningful contest in sports.
I might have been 8 years old the last time I tuned in to watch an NHL All Star Game.
Tiger Williams once said it was an event where everybody could act like a ” Big Time Charlie “, nothing more.
It’s pointless.
There are more competitive games being played on the streets and on backyard rinks
Nobody gains anything, other the players who have All Star Bonus clauses and perhaps a lot of prestige for the host centre and host organization.
Again the NHL All Star Game is Saturday in Las Vegas.
Under normal circumstances, I might go to Vegas in February….but certainly not to watch the NHL All Star Game.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
