Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.
Pete’s Auto Body; because we care about our community.
The decision on Wednesday to postpone Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada at Owen Sound was disappointing.
It’s the right call, but disappointing nonetheless.
Among the many areas & aspects that will be impacted by the postponement were;
– the Owen Sound Ice Hawks U13 team who had volunteered to serve as an enthusiastic welcoming committee
– actually both the Ice Hawks and the Junior Attack programs were in line for lovely benefits
– The Reach Centre who were scheduled to be invited to the Alumni Game
– with the Alumni Game, there were at least two prominent players from our region that I felt should be saluted for their excellence in the sport by participating in the game between Team Tucker & Team MacDonald.
– also with the alumni game, the pre-game ceremony was designed to honor some significant family names for hockey in our city.
& I was enthused about the 2 High School games, boys and girls, St Mary’s Mustangs versus the OSDSS Wolves.
Yes, these schools will play each other again this season, I hope, but the stage for this group of players, many of whom will graduate from their secondary schools this year, might never be bigger.
And from a radio standpoint, I feel for our company and the community minded sponsors: Baywest Nissan, Terry’s Trailer Service, Terri Hastings Real Estate Team, Belfor Property Restoration Owen Sound, Garbutt Construction-Belfor, Collingwood and the City of Owen Sound who were enthusiastically on board from the word ” go “.
Again, it’s the right call and in a few tiny ways, some modifications will be beneficial.
I imagine the Attack won’t be a in stretch of 3 games in 3 days when Scotiabank Hockey Day returns, plus there will be other revisions and upgrades.
The good news tucked under the level of disappointment is that Scotiabank and Sportsnet have pledged to be here in 2023 for Hockey Day in Canada.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace.
