Sunset Park Playground is going to get an additional half a million dollar upgrade.
The Town of Collingwood is directing $500,000 of its funding from the Canada Community Building Fund towards the Playground Project, which is expected to be ready next summer.
The playground at Sunset Point is a special amenity within the Town of Collingwood. The location on the waterfront, the integration with Collingwood’s most highly used park, and the stability of the playground as a place for families to come, even as the community has grown and evolved at an astounding rate, are all indicators of this special status.
This playground re-build will revitalize the park environment, creating an inclusive and accessible area for active play, and supporting healthy development for children across the community. The playground will also address the 7 Modes of Play that were the subject of our public engagement sessions. The goal is to create a final design that includes a variety of play features, surfacing needs, earthworks to create land forms, accessibility provisions and enhancements, integration of water into the play experience, and connections to the natural environment. The Lighthouse will be largely constructed from and/or paneled with wood from the Robinia genus of trees – known for being a vibrant, fast-growing, and therefore sustainable source of materials.
