The Community Foundation Grey Bruce is distributing over $246,000 in grants to local charities and non-profits.
The 10 grants were handed out during the fall season to organizations in order to support their projects which will address community well-being across the region.
One of these organizations included Home and Community Support Services (HCSS), who received $10,000 to enhance the outdoor space for their programs in Port Elgin and Owen Sound.
Stephen Musehl, Executive Director of HCSS says, “the pandemic has really highlighted for everyone just how important access to the outdoors is. The fencing will allow the Adult Day Away program to safely extend to the outdoors, improving the program and helping people continue to live in their homes and community longer.”
A notice from the Community Foundation Grey Bruce says the applications for Fall Community Grants, reflects the fact Grey Bruce is launching fresh projects and programs which reflect what they have learned throughout the pandemic.
The Foundation says as we move into the winter season, food insecurity has made an identifiable priority with organizations sending in applications to create and expand community gardens in Meaford, Owen Sound and Durham. As well as a new Community Closet and Pantry at the South East Grey Community Health Centre, and hot food programs or meal classes through the United Way of Bruce Grey, Safe ‘N Sound, Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre, and The Chesley Baptist Church Hot Meal Program.
Applications for the Spring 2022 Community Grants will open in January, and will be due April 15.
