The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation has kicked off its public launch of a $3 million dollar CT scanner fundraising campaign.
The CT scanner campaign slogan is ‘Bring TOM To Town’ because a CT scanner’s proper name is a Computed ‘TOM’ography Scanner.
$3 million would cover the cost of purchasing the CT scanner, its software and minor renovations to accommodate it. A 2019 renovation to the ER and Lab at the hospital in Southampton created space to house the future CT suite and a waiting room.
Currently, Grey Bruce Health Services’ only CT scanner is at the Owen Sound Regional Hospital. It runs five days a week, ten hours a day for scheduled visits and is available 24/7 for urgent cases. The hospital foundation says CT scans are becoming the diagnostic tool of choice for many physicians, and the addition of a CT in Saugeen Shores will allow GBHS to better manage the increasing volume of CT patients.
The campaign launch was held at the Nuclear Innovation Institute in Port Elgin Wednesday.
Jenny and James Scongack will be this year’s Honorary Chairs of the Foundation’s annual Light the Way holiday campaign, which begins mid-November and runs until the end of December. Fundraising from Light the Way, which includes the Foundation’s annual radiothon in December in partnership with 97.9 The Bruce, will support the CT scanner fundraising efforts.
