Owen Sound Attack Head Coach Alan Letang has stepped down.
The team says in a release Letang is leaving his role to pursue other opportunities. The Attack will begin their search for a new head coach immediately.
Letang, 45, joined the Attack as an assistant coach prior to the 2016-17 season. He took over head coaching duties midway through the 2018-19 season after the departure of Todd Gill.
In his time behind the Attack bench, Letang put together a record of 38-35-6-4.
Letang also spent time with Hockey Canada. He was an assistant coach with the 2020 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship gold medal winning Canadian squad. Letang also worked as an assistant with the under-17 and under-18 Hockey Canada programs.
“When we brought Al in a number of years ago it was under the impression that he would become the head coach,” says Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. “He was given the opportunity and after working under Ryan McGill and Todd Gill, he did a fantastic job.”
“It’s always difficult losing a coach, but under the circumstances I believe we are doing what’s best,” DeGray continues. “He will be missed and we wish him well.”
Letang is thanking the Attack organization from top-to-bottom as he moves on.
“To all the Attack fans out there. Thank you for letting me and showing me what it’s like to be a part of the Owen Sound Attack community,” he says in a statement. “Owen Sound has been and always will be a real special place.”
