A well known member of the Grey Bruce farming community has died.
Barry Tolton passed away Saturday at the age of 81 from cancer.
He was involved with numerous local organizations including Grey Bruce Farmers Week, The International Plowing Match, Ontario Soil and Crop, the Markdale Hospital Auxiliary and the Markdale Curling Club.
Tolton was born in Walkerton and raised on a farm. He earned a BSc in Agriculture from the University of Guelph in 1965, and while working for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food (now OMAFRA) moved to Markdale in 1970. In 1979 he and his family moved to Glenelg Township.
His obituary from May Funeral Home says, “Please take a moment over the coming days to pay your respects to Barry. Consider paying an act of kindness forward to a neighbour, contributing to your community, enjoying a glass of warm beer or a sweet treat after dinner. Take a moment to enjoy the ‘real characters’ in your life.”
A private graveside service is scheduled in the coming months.
