Kincardine council has taken the next step to look for their own doctors that might be interested in locating in the municipality.
Council feels it needs to up its game to stay in the hunt.
The problem is the joint physician recruitment program involving Kincardine, Saugeen Shores and Bruce Power is under evaluation and at this time doesn’t have a full time doctor recruiter.
Kincardine council agreed on February 1st to allow CAO Sharon Chambers, Councillor Doug Kennedy and Dr. Angela Cavanagh to meet with potential recruits on their own.
Councillor Kennedy says there is nothing more important, in his mind, than getting enough doctors into the community.
He believes at this time, the entire community should be doctor recruiters by making sure any leads are shared with the new municipal group.
Councillor Dorne Fitzsimmons supports the plan and hopes if potential recruits don’t come, they find out why.
He says it’s a loop that needs to be closed and in doing so, it could make Kincardine that much more attractive to doctors in the future.
Councillor Kennedy says he’s got a lead on a couple of candidates that want to meet and “talk about the possibility of being a doctor here.”
The vote to move forward was unanimous.
