The Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound is holding an event next month to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
Club Vice President Tim Brown says they are holding a gala on May 10 at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre to mark the milestone.
“We are having some well respected guests from the Kiwanis Clubs across eastern Canada and the Caribbean, that is the district that we belong to, and we are hoping that people will come out and join us in celebrating our big anniversary,” says Brown.
He says back in 1925 when the Kiwanis Club first started, the City of Owen Sound asked to partner with the organization to build a new arena.
This partnership has since grown to cover a wide range of projects in the city.
“We have gone through many different collaborations with the City of Owen Sound in making sure that we could put facilities available for the kids of Owen Sound as well as the area. They include things like the skate park and the kids facilities down at Harrison Park,” says Brown.
The club has also become well-known for putting on the annual Santa Claus parade in the city.
More details about the ticketed gala can be found on the club’s website here.
