The City of Owen Sound is set to launch its new Green Bin Program later this spring.
The program will begin the first week of June and will allow residents to dispose of organic waste like food scraps, soiled paper, pet waste, and other compostable materials for curbside collection every week.
Plastics, leaf and yard waste, diapers, cigarette butts and ashes, soil or rocks, metal, and glass do not go in the green bin.
The program does not require additional bag tags and in mid-May, green bins as well as a kitchen catcher pail and information packet will be delivered directly to eligible homes.
Mayor Ian Boddy says, “The Green Bin program isn’t just a new waste collection program in Owen Sound – it’s a bold step toward a greener future. By making it easier to divert household waste from landfills, we’re taking real action to reduce our environmental footprint and build a more sustainable City. I encourage everyone to take party – small actions can make a big difference.”
The weekly green bin collection will be held on the same day as regular garbage collection.
