The United Way of Bruce Grey is helping remember some of those lost to opioids in our communities.
The organization was at the Owen Sound Farmers’ Market on Saturday for the 5th Annual We Remember Them Event.
In addition to paying tribute to those who have died as a result of opioids, the United Way was also offering various resources.
Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn says, “We have got members of the public, we have family members coming by, public health is here with an information booth.”
Grey Bruce Public Health and the United Way were offering Naloxone kits and information about the current opioid crisis in the region.
“I think it is really important that everybody should carry a Naloxone kit,” says Dobbyn.
They were also advertising the various mental health and addiction drop-in clinics across the region, as well as the Grey Bruce Community Help Line.
Attendees were also encouraged to take a carnation and release it into the Sydenham River as a symbolic gesture to remember their loved ones, as well as add their photo to the community memory board.
“We are talking more in the community about that we are losing our community members to the poisoned drug supply,” says Dobbyn. “They may be gone from our community, but they are not gone from our hearts.”
