The province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate after Orillia OPP were called to a disturbance on Friday.
Just before 8:30 on the evening of Friday, April 4th, police were called to a disturbance and multiple structure fires on Peninsula Point Road in Severn.
Officers found an individual in the area, and during an interaction with the person, police discharged an Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield (ARWEN) conducted energy weapon.
One person was taken into custody. According to the SIU, the 60-year-old man from Clarington was also taken to hospital, but was not seriously injured.
He’s been charged with assault, assault with a weapon, possessing an explosive with intent, uttering threats, and four counts of arson.
The SIU says that two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.
