Two Owen Sound residents were recognized for their community fundraising efforts by being awarded their very own King Charles III Coronation Medals.
Tom Rice and Sonya Mount received their medals during a ceremony on Monday at the YMCA Health, Fitness & Aquatics facility.
The pair were recognized for their commitment to the city and the Grey Bruce region.
The YMCA’s Capital Campaign, which was led by Price and Mount, raised $6.3 million, which far exceeded the original goal.
The King Charles III Coronation Medal is awarded to those who are nominated for their contributions to their community.
The ceremony also highlighted the Capital Campaign, when the City of Owen Sound and the YMCA signed a new 20-year agreement.
The partnership solidifies the future of the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre, and enables the YMCA to provide essential services and support to the region for decades to come.
The YMCA says that they have commissioned the engineering firm Ameresco to assess the rec centre’s needs, which projected nearly $2 million in capital investments needed by the year 2032, and $5 million by 2041.
