Orillia , Oro-Medonte and the Rama First Nation have declared states of emergency due to the hazardous conditions caused by the severe ice storm.
Orillia’s emergency declaration urges residents to stay home and only travel if absolutely essential.
Trees continue to fall and ice-laden branches and downed power lines are creating significant hazards.
A Relief Centre at the Orillia Recreation Centre will remain open and is being prepared to accommodate overnight stays in partnership with the County of Simcoe, should the need arise.
The Relief Centre offers a warm, safe space, charging stations (with priority for medical devices), access to restrooms and light refreshments. See the entire emergency declaration here.
Oro Medonte Mayor Randy Greenlaw has also made a similar declaration.
Township roads are blocked by downed trees and power lines and residents are being warned not to venture out.
