The rehabilitation of the Bannockburn Bridge is moving forward as county council approves the tender for the project.
During Wednesday’s council meeting, the tender was awarded to McLean Taylor Construction Ltd. in the amount of $2,214,881.
The project involves the rehabilitation of Bannockburn Bridge and improvements to the storm drain and gutter system which run 500m westward of the bridge on County Road 3.
Previous rehabilitation work on the bridge was performed in 2005.
That work included concrete patch repairs, waterproofing and paving the bridge deck, and coating the girder ends at the abutments.
More recently, it was reported that the steel girders of the Bannockburn Bridge are corroding, with severe corrosion over the piers at the center span and the previously coated ends are peeling and corroding.
The assessment also showed that the soffit has areas of concrete delamination and spalling with exposed corroded rebar. The barrier wall’s steel posts and panels exhibit moderate to severe corrosion, including full section loss.
