Two Bruce County residents were recognized for their achievements by being awarded King Charles III Coronation Medals.
The awards were given to start off Thursday’s county council meeting, and were presented by Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson.
The recipients were Muriel Shular, who has been a dedicated volunteer of the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre, as well as county music singer Owen Riegling.
Shular was nominated for her contributions for the past 7 years. During her time, she’s volunteered more than 700 hours of her time.
She often volunteers to help with children’s programs, and is known for fostering a welcoming and educational environment for the kids who participate.
Shular is also known for being an ambassador for the Museum’s volunteer program.
Riegling, who hails from Mildmay, has been getting national an international attention for his music, including multiple Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMAs) and earning a Juno Nomination for Breakout Artist of the Year in 2025.
“Muriel and Owen embody the spirit of service and excellence that makes Bruce County so special,” said Warden Luke Charbonneau. “Muriel’s dedication to preserving and sharing our local history, and Owen’s incredible success in Canadian country music, are both inspiring examples of the impact our residents have, locally and beyond. It is an honour to recognize them today.”
South Bruce Mayor Mark Goetz also said a few words upon Riegling receiving his medal, saying “You make your community proud, and no matter where life leads you, I always want you to know there’s a path that leads back home, and we’ll be happy to have you.”
