Goderich town council says that staff will be working to come up with solutions to paid parking at the medical centre.
Council approved an option to introduce $3 paid parking at the Maitland Valley Medical Centre during their meeting on February 24th.
The cost was proposed to be per visit.
Funeral director Mark Rushton, from Falconer Funeral Homes, made a presentation to council that the charge to part, even at $3 per visit wouldn’t be fair to residents who have to to to the MVMC on a regular basis.
Rushton also used an example for his job, where sometimes staff from the funeral home have to go to the MVMC multiple times per day as they have doctors sign off for things like death certificates.
He added that although a charge of $3 per visit didn’t seem like much, it would be far more important to seniors on fixed incomes who have to go to the medical centre multiple times per month or even per week, including those who get picked up and dropped off at the clinic.
Rushton proposed that council had staff consider an accommodation that would allow free parking for up to 15 minutes, and then have a charge of $3 to park.
Council accepted the proposal, and would be discussing the implementation at a future date.
The introduction for the parking fee was expected to be introduced some time in 2025.
