A new facilities master plan is going to be prepared for Georgian Bluffs, and council will be reviewing a contract for the work this week.
Township staff are recommending council award a $192,000 contract to architecture firm McCallum Sather to complete a facilities master plan, which would include a “comprehensive review of all seven primary facilities” in Georgian Bluffs.
The recommendation will be discussed by Georgian Bluffs council at Wednesday’s meeting.
A report by Georgian Bluffs Chief Administrative Officer Niall Lobley says the township operates seven significant facilities to support operations and community activities: the administration office, Kemble Arena/Community Centre, Derby Arena/Community Centre, Shallow Lake Arena/Community Centre, Keppel Shop, Derby Shop and Sarawak Shop.
“With the exception of the administrative officers, these buildings predate amalgamation … significant investment in repairs and asset replacement and renewal in many of these buildings has been minimal over their lifespan to date,” Lobley says in his report.
Two years ago, Georgian Bluffs council shelved a planned renovation of the Kemble Arena over funding concerns. That process also led to council deciding a review of the condition of township facilities was necessary before making any further investments.
The firm staff are recommending for the facilities review contract was the lone bidder in the township’s request for proposals process.
