Dufferin County OPP want to remind everyone that with warmer temperatures and a chance of rain this weekend, it’s important to pay special attention to the Waldemar and Grand Valley areas.
They say that there is a risk of flooding in those areas, and remind everyone to be careful.
Weather forecasts show there is a chance of downpours and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall, and low-lying areas like rivers, creeks, and other bodies of water may have higher than average water flow.
Key Information:
- Expected Weather: Significant downpours, with thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, are anticipated throughout the weekend.
- Risk of Flooding: Localized flooding is possible, especially in low-lying areas, near rivers, creeks, and other water bodies.
- Impacted Areas: Communities in flood-prone zones are at heightened risk of experiencing flooding conditions.
What Residents Can Do:
- Stay Updated: Monitor local weather forecasts and emergency alerts throughout the weekend to stay informed of any changing conditions.
- Avoid Flooded Areas: Do not drive or walk through flooded streets or water-covered areas. Flood waters can rise rapidly, making them unsafe.
- Prepare for Emergencies: Ensure you have an emergency kit with essential items such as flashlights, batteries, medications, and important documents.
- Maintain Drains and Gutters: Clear gutters, drains, and downspouts of debris to minimize the risk of water backup and reduce flooding around your property.
The OPP says to plan accordingly — if you live in a flood-prone area, it’s important to make sure that you and your property are safe by taking proactive measures and being prepared in the event of an emergency.
