Huron County Council is closing in on a final budget for 2025.
The county’s Director of Corporate Services and Treasurer Michael Blumhagen presented the final options for this year’s capital and operating budget to council.
Council has chosen to move forward with a total levy increase of 5 per cent, which will raise the tax rate by 3.4 per cent for ratepayers.
Blumhagen also outlined other options that would have had a lower increase, but it would have come at the cost of not making any staffing changes, as well as not moving ahead on capital projects that were deemed necessary.
A lower increase would also mean that the county would have to cut funding to some community programs.
County staff will finalize the budget and present it to council for adoption.
