The City of Owen Sound is seeking approval from the Ministry of Transportation to extend funding for the Guelph-Owen Sound Transit (GOST) bus service.
The GOST bus operates daily with morning and afternoon runs between Owen Sound and Guelph. It stops in several other communities along Highway 6, including Chatsworth, Williamsford, Durham, Mount Forest, Arthur, Fergus and Elora.
The service is funded through the Ontario Government’s Community Transportation Grant Program, which required all dollars be spent by the end of this month (March 2025).
But a statement from the City of Owen Sound says it has remaining grant funding due to higher than expected fare revenue. It’s now hoping those dollars could be used to extend the service for one year.
“The city is awaiting confirmation from Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation on the status of the amending agreement and will provide an update to all partners as soon as possible,” a release from the City of Owen Sound explains.
