Huron-Bruce has re-elected Progressive Conservative Lisa Thompson as its member of provincial parliament.
Thompson won at 50 per cent of the vote share.
“In Huron-Bruce we have a strong progressive conservative organization that represents people that truly believe that we need to protect Ontario and that means making sure our economy not only is protected but continues to grow,” says Thompson in an interview with Bayshore Broadcasting News.
She says top of mind for voters she talked to on the campaign trail was the need to protect Ontario amid tariff threats.
“I will continue into this term to work as hard as I did right from day one,” says Thompson.
Liberal Ian Burbidge was next at 28 per cent of the vote, followed by NDP candidate Nick McGregor with 11.8 per cent. Green Party candidate Matthew Van Ankum at 5.6 per cent, Zack Weiler of the New Blue Party at 4.2 per cent and Bruce Eisen of the Ontario Alliance at 0.4 per cent.
This will be Lisa Thompson’s fifth term. She was first elected in the riding in 2011.
In past PC governments, Thompson has been minister of Education (2018-2019) Government and Consumer Services (2019-2021), Agriculture (2021-2024), and most recently Rural Affairs.
