Partial demolition of the former Grey county courthouse and jail in Owen Sound is set to begin, ahead of the proposed redevelopment of the site.
Last month, the city’s community services committee endorsed a plan to remove some structures at the jail property, including a single-storey garage, some accessory buildings and non-original additions to the 19th century jail.
The city sold the former courthouse and jail to an investor two years ago, who has plans to turn the properties into a wedding, dining and entertainment venue.
While the site plan approval process is currently underway, the city says in a release, non-heritage buildings and structures will be demolished and removed this year.
Both properties have been sitting vacant since 2014.
