Grey County is inviting local farmers to take part in the Experimental Acres projects.
The projects are part of the Going Green in Grey climate action plan, which will includes sustainable agricultural practices.
Those who apply will fall into one of three categories, living roots and green cover projects to extend the time soil is covered or has living roots in it, innovation for projects which implement new farm practices, and incorporating livestock into farm systems.
“Experimental Acres is designed to minimize the financial risk associated with trying new practices while preparing farmers for larger funding opportunities in the future. In addition to financial support, the pilot offers soil testing and education and networking with other participants,” says the county in a release.
The Experimental Acres pilot was developed as part of the Guelph-Wellington Our Food Future, which is funded by Infrastructure Canada. Wellington County facilitated the project in Wellington and Dufferin in 2022, and Grey County later joined in 2023.
