Bluewater Sports Management is hoping Huron-Kinloss council will agree to put an indoor turf facility in the municipality.
Brandon Kushnir, of Bluewater Sports Management, made a presentation to council on January 13th, sharing the findings his company received from a feasibility study.
The study was meant to get a feel for the sustainability and community demand for such a facility, that could be used by neighbouring communities as well.
Organizations such as Kincardine Minor Soccer, Kincardine Minor Baseball, Kincardine Football, Saugeen Shores Baseball, and Ripley Minor Baseball all shared their demand for an indoor facility.
The feasibility study also found that organizations would accept hourly fees of $100-$130 for their field times.
Kushnir proposed the facility could be built at Kin Bruce Park, off Lake Range Road, and be used by various sports teams and organizations for indoor practices, and allow teams to start practicing earlier in their sport’s preseason.
The study found that there was an existing demand for an indoor turf facility within Bruce County, as currently the only facility that is similar is located in Listowel.
Kushnir proposed that the building would be approximately 77,000 square feet with a dome that houses two 7-on-7 soccer fields, a 135-foot baseball infield that would accommodate both softball and hardball and wiffle ball, 6 batting cages, and 6 pickleball courts.
Bluewater Sports Management proposes that they would also upgrade the existing playground at Kin Bruce Park.
The estimated cost for the sports dome would be $6,000,000, and Kushnir says he’d like to have the facility open in 2026.
Council is expected to discuss the proposal further at a future meeting.
