You can join a growing group of men that gives back to local charities.
100 Good Men Founder Don Day says, “It’s 100 men who get together four times a year after we nominate local charities and we get educated as to what these charities do in our community. Towards the end of our meeting we take a vote and decide who we’d like to support.”
Each member donates $100 to a charity four at a meeting four times a year. They just started up last quarter, and their first donation was of $10,600 to Home and Community Support Service Grey Bruce in support of their meal delivery program.
Day says he was inspired by the 100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce. “That’s basically where the idea came form, it’s the same concept except its a bunch of guys,” says Day.
“The charities that we’re supporting have to be a local charity,” says Day, noting his group focuses on northern Grey County and has members from Georgian Bluffs, Owen Sound and Meaford.
“It doesn’t really command a lot of time. It gives you ca chance to give back, but our meetings are only one hour,” says Day.
Each member picks three charities and the three most popular ones are voted on. “We had 83 nominations this past quarter and out of that we had 31 different charities,” says Day.
The next meeting is January 21st at the Best Western Inn on the Bay in Owen Sound at 7 p.m.
Day says you can join the group on their website 100goodmen.ca, noting, “You can join through that and we’d welcome you at Tuesday’s meeting, or if you would like to show up at the door, we’re not taking any spectators, if you show up at the door you’re expected to join,” says Day.
He says the meeting starts at 7, and newcomers can show up a little earlier to sign up.
