Kincardine Council received a series of reports from the municipality’s environmental services department.
In the report from December 2024, two issues arose: a spill of chlorinated water into Lake Huron, and a wastewater exceedance at the Bruce Energy Centre lagoon site.
Despite the issues, there was minimal impact to the surrounding environment.
The spill of chlorinated water from the Kincardine Water Treatment Plant and was reported to the Ministry of Health on December 6th, 2024.
According to the report, staff had been running water to the waste tanks on that date, after troubleshooting separate issue. When the system was put back into commission, there was an apparent error made in the computer program. That error caused 371,000 litres of chlorinated water to flow into the lake.
Manager of Environmental Services Mark O’Leary says that the water was deemed to be safe and potable.
Meanwhile, at the end of November, the Bruce Energy Centre lagoons had a wastewater exceedance, which was reported to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks.
