A garage fire east of Burgoyne has resulted in about $200,000 in damage.
Arran-Elderslie Fire Chief Steve Tiernan says they’re not completely sure what the cause of the fire was, but they had responded to the same address Monday for a fire as well. Tiernan says the problem may have been an extension from a wood stove.
The fire in the 70 by 30 foot detached garage Tuesday was knocked down by roughly 25 firefighters from Arran-Elderslie’s Tara and Paisley fire stations. Tiernan says firefighters were on scene for about five hours.
“The crews arrived on scene, did a quick interior attack and were able to get the fire under control rapidly, and realistically prevented a whole pile of damage and loss. Just excellent work by our stations and our firefighters under, obviously, as you know, adverse conditions today.” (snow squalls), says Tiernan.
He adds, there was a lot more saved than lost in terms of the structure and its contents.
No injuries were reported.
