Grey Highlands has several projects planned for its 2025 budget.
During a municipal budget meeting last week, council discussed which projects would be funded as part of the budget.
Council approved providing a municipal contribution of $294,000 towards the revitalization of the Flesherton Arena.
Following a building condition assessment of the arena, the municipality submitted a grant application for the replacement of the arena’s aging ice refrigeration system, upgrade the floors, improving accessibility, and other infrastructure upgrades.
Council also approved about $3 million in funding for engineering services for the reconstruction of Brackenbury Avenue and Lawler Drive.
The initial tender for engineering services was awarded to B.M. Ross and Associates Limited in 2023 to reconstruct the roadways in Markdale and replace the watermain and sanitary sewer.
An engineering and environmental assessment is underway and the design process is in the works.
An updated construction estimate and anticipated timeline for construction has been provided by the consultants, which anticipates some preliminary works will be completed this year, with road reconstruction and water and sanitary to be completed in 2026.
Additionally, council approved the over $728,000 in funding needed to replace a bridge on 10th Concession, just east of Grey Road 2.
The engineering and design component for the replacement, which is currently underway, was included in the 2024 budget with the aim of proposing construction in 2025.
In October last year, council supported a recommendation to replace the existing structure with twin culverts.
Tender documents for the project aim to be ready this month.
There are currently 50 proposed capital projects with a total cost of over $11 million.
