West Grey Police have confirmed the identity of the victim of a recent homicide in Durham.
Travis Hopkins, 35, was the man who died after being stabbed on Garafraxa Street South in Durham last Saturday, Jan. 4, West Grey Police Const. Alison Iles confirms.
Hopkins was the owner of a local fishing tackle shop, Balls Deep Fishing Company.
“He was a business owner in the community and I know that he will be missed by many,” Iles says.
Police say the incident happened at 378 Garafraxa Street South beside the Foodland. Hopkins was transported from the scene to the Durham hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Scott Timbers, 36, of Thornton was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He is due to make an appearance in court in Walkerton on Thursday, Jan. 9.
West Grey Police Chief Rob Martin told the Owen Sound Sun Times the incident may have related to “an argument between two friends.” He was also quoted saying police were investigating information the accused and the victim were business partners.
Bayshore Broadcasting News reached out to Martin to independently confirm the report, but he was unavailable for an interview Wednesday.
West Grey Police Const. Iles would not comment further as the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
