The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) says a flood watch is in effect for West Grey.
The update on Sunday follows a previously issued flood outlook as snow squalls over the past several days have resulted in large amounts of slush in the Saugeen River.
The organization says these conditions have caused partial blockage of the channel between the Durham Upper Dam and Durham Middle Dam, resulting in increased water levels below McGowan Falls, which could lead to flooding.
“While snow squalls have eased, a continued drop in temperatures over the next several days is expected to create frazil ice which could lead to further blockage of the channel,” says the SVCA.
The SVCA is working with West Grey to provide a flood forecast to municipal staff.
The Durham Upper Dam walkway and trail between the upper dam and middle dam have been closed for safety and people are asked to avoid the area.
The statement will remain in effect until Jan. 20 at 4:30 p.m. unless changed.
