Bruce County is planning to use provincial funding to bring more EV chargers to the area.
The Rural ReCharge Steering Committee, which aims to establish more EV chargers across Bruce, Grey, Dufferin, Wellington, Huron, and Perth Counties, secured funding from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation in November, 2024.
This comes after the committee had submitted an application in January, 2024 to obtain level two and three chargers for various locations.
The funding received by the provide would cover 50 per cent of the costs, while the other half would come from the Ivy Network, which supports the committee.
The funding from the ministry will bring six level three chargers and three level two chargers to local municipalities in Bruce County.
The proposed locations for the chargers include Saugeen Shores along Victoria Street, Kincardine at the Davidson Centre, South Bruce Peninsula at Sauble Beach and the Wiarton Municipal parking lot, Northern Bruce Peninsula at Lion’s Head Beach and the Ferndale-Bruce Peninsula Tourism Association, Arran-Elderslie at the Paisley Arena, and Huron-Kinloss.
Bruce County Director of Transportation and Environmental Services Adam Stanley says, “These locations are recommended based on modeling results of cross-regional travel and distance from other D.C. Fast Chargers. The cross-regional travel routes were based on major transportation corridors and utilized a tourism lens for the destinations most likely considered by visitors.”
The next step is to formalize the agreements with the Ivy network for these locations.
Council will review this update during its meeting on Jan. 9 at 9:30 a.m.
