The OPP has released its results for this year’s RIDE campaigns.
For Grey Bruce OPP, 173 events were held by officers, and 16 drivers were caught impaired.
Meanwhile, in the 152 RIDE events held by South Bruce OPP, 11 drivers were caught over the limit, while one driver got a ticket for being in the warning range.
For both local detachments, fewer RIDE checks were held compared to last year – Grey Bruce had 167 and South Bruce 175.
According to last year’s numbers, Grey Bruce had caught 28 impaired drivers, with one in the warning range, while South Bruce had 15 impaired drivers with 4 in the warning range.
Across the entire area patrolled by West Region OPP, 292 impaired driving charges were laid across 1,938 RIDE checks.
The Festive RIDE campaign is an annual police enforcement and education initiative aimed at taking impaired drivers off Ontario roads during the holiday season.
