Brightshores Health System says its emergency departments may have extended wait times.
They say it’s because of increased patient volumes and note, patients with the most urgent needs will be seen first.
Dr. Cornelius Van Zyl, Chief of Staff at Brightshores, says in a statement, “We know that visiting the ED can be a stressful time, we appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to treat our patients. Please continue to seek medical treatment as needed, there may be a longer wait but your health and safety remains a priority for our teams.”
A release from Brightshores says “We want to assure our patients that we are working hard to provide timely and effective treatment to all those who need it.”
Brightshores runs six hospitals with 24/7 emergency departments in Lion’s Head, Markdale, Meaford, Owen Sound, Southampton and Wiarton.
They say in a release, if you are experiencing a medical emergency, do not delay seeking care. Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.
For less urgent medical concerns, they’re encouraging people to consider alternative options such as family doctors, walk-in clinics or telehealth services to get the care they need and help alleviate pressure on the emergency departments. They say you can call Health 811 (Call 811 or Toll free:1-866-797-0007) for non-urgent health information day
or night.
Brightshores says it wants to thank everyone for their understanding and patience as they continue to serve the community during this busy period.
