The number of people relying on the Salvation Army around the holidays is up in 2024 in Goderich and Clinton.
Each year, the Salvation Army creates holiday “hampers,” consisting of food and toys for families.
Community and Family Services Supervisor, Kendall Strome, says more families were in need of the hampers this Christmas.
“We handed out over 330 food hampers in between Goderich and Clinton,” Strome tells Country 104.9 News.
“That is sixteen per cent more than last year.”
The needs for presents under the Christmas tree is also up this year, according to Strome.
“We had 274 toys, and that is ten per cent more than last year,” Strome says.
“I would imagine, if nothing changes with prices of food and the price of rent, I will see that [increase] will continue.”
