Huron County council has approved a contribution to create new child care spaces in the region.
Council received a report from Chery Patience, the county’s Manager for Ontario Works and Children’s Services, and shared that North Huron Municipal Child Care is looking to add 26 new spaces in Blyth.
The county is hoping to add a total of 175 child care spaces of the time frame set by the province, between 2022-2026.
The Ministry of Education had previously committed to creating a total of 86,000 new child care spaces across the province during that five-year span.
The report came with a request for funding. The county receives annual funding for minor capital renovations to help with the creation of childcare spaces, which is dispersed to applicants committed to adding those spaces within a two-year timeline.
The maximum grant funding is $350,000.
