OPP and Hanover police have laid a first degree murder charge in their ongoing investigation of a death in Hanover.
On December 17th at about 8:50 a.m., Hanover police officers responded to an incident at an address on 5th Street in Hanover.
Upon arrival, they found one person dead, identified as 57-year-old Colin Campbell of Hanover.
31-year-old William Backman is charged with first degree murder.
Police say he remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on January 13, 2025.
Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
OPP South Bruce Crime Unit and Hanover police continue the investigation under the direction of OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
