Local organizations across the region are receiving support from Bruce Power and it supplier partners with $320,000 in donations.
The energy company says over the holiday season, it has partnered with its employees, suppliers, the United Way of Bruce Grey, and the larger community to raise $55,000 to support 19 toy drives across Grey, Bruce and Huron counties.
Bruce Power also donated $2,000 to each of the 38 local food banks, while soup kitchens in Chesley, Hanover, Owen Sound, and Walkerton each got a portion of a $20,000 donation.
Meanwhile, $50,000 went to homeless shelters across the region to help their outreach efforts.
Additionally, by partnering with local schools, Bruce Power says hundreds of $25 grocery store gift cards went home with students to help their families, while others were given to local women’s shelters and Indigenous communities.
Bruce Power’s Indigenous Network held an on-site warm winter clothing drive, which collected hundreds of pieces of winter clothing for Saugeen First Nation, Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, and the M’Wikwedong Indigenous Friendship Centre, while $10,000 in new warm winter clothing was sent to Bruce Grey Child and Family Services, Huron-Perth Children’s Aid, Saugeen First Nation, and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.
Bruce Power Director of Community and Media Relations and Economic Development John Peevers says, “although we are proud of the work that we do throughout the year, we recognize the need is even greater during the holiday season. We are very thankful for our community, our dedicated employees, and our supplier partners for stepping up to help families across Bruce, Grey and Huron counties feel the season’s cheer.”
