The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) is advising of high water levels following the recent warm weather.
An SVCA statement says as a result of the warm front and the up to 20 millimetres of rain which hit the area on Monday, a substantial amount of snow has melted.
“Temperatures will remain above freezing for the next several days resulting in further melting of the snowpack. In response, water levels have increased sharply overnight and are above seasonal range. Peak water levels are not expected to occur until Wednesday and into Thursday,” says the SVCA.
The authority adds while significant flooding is not expected, there is the possibility of watercourses overflowing, resulting in minor flooding in low-lying areas and could create hazardous conditions near all waterways.
“The public is reminded to stay away from all watercourses and structures such as pedestrian bridges, culverts and dams,” says the SVCA. “Saugeen Conservation staff will be closely monitoring the situation and will provide an update if conditions change.”
This advisory will remain in effect until Friday at 4:30 p.m. unless updated.
