West Grey is seeing an uptick in building activity compared to last year.
Council reviewed the building statistics for the third quarter during its meeting on Dec. 3, which compares the number of permits issued for residential, agricultural, commercial, institutional, and industrial builds since 2020.
During the third quarter this year, the municipality issued 93 permits compared to the 76 in 2023.
The majority of these came from the 19 permits issued for new multi-residential homes versus the eight last year. Additionally, there were eight new home permits issued and 11 for new agricultural buildings.
Year-to-date, the municipality has issued 218 permits compared to the 210 in 2023, and 52 new residential units have been added in 2024.
Meanwhile permit revenue has skyrocketed to almost $600,000 from last year’s $191,802.
Director of Infrastructure and Development Karl Schipprack says, “it is some good news that the building is increasing for the third quarter and I have been in consultation with some other municipalities and other CBOs and it seems to be a general trend across the board that other municipalities are seeing the same thing that construction is increasing from where it was in the second quarter in 2024.”
