Hanover Police Service says that no criminal activity is believed to be associated with the discover of human remains at a local construction site.
Police say that the remains, believed to belong to a child between 12 and 18 months old, were likely buried a century ago, according to a forensic anthropologist.
Crews had unearthed the remains on Tuesday morning.
Due to the age of the remains, there is no criminality suspected.
The Registrar of Ontario’s Funeral, Burial, and Cremation Services has invoked its mandate and taken control of the construction site.
Officials from the Town of Hanover and police are searching historical records to identify the child, and potentially find out if they have any living relatives.
