The Chair of the Owen Sound River District Board of Management says some downtown businesses are feeling the impact of the Canada Post strike.
Dave Parsons, who owns Parsons Foto Source, says he met with several local business owners recently and a few identified they were having issues since 55,000 Canada Post workers across the country walked off the job in mid-November.
“Some of them are experiencing a little bit of trouble because they had been predominantly using Canada Post. So it has impacted them,” says Parsons.
He says while businesses have moved to other delivery services, they have found it costs more to ship their products.
“They said that it was costing them at least twice as much as what they were experiencing through their membership with Canada Post,” says Parsons.
Parsons says the doors are always open at businesses in Owen Sound’s River District for people to get their holiday shopping done in-person. And adds those affected by the Canada Post work stoppage are doing what they can to ensure online orders get fulfilled.
