Hanover’s new splash pad will be called the Canadian Tire Splash Pad.
The Town is making the announcement after meeting its $300,000 fundraising goal.
Donations from Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities and Cathy and Dale Cousins, owners of Canadian Tire Hanover store have been instrumental in reaching the goal with a $75,000 contribution.
The name will remain for a 15 year term.
The design phase of the project is set to get underway next.
It’s slated to eventually be built by the new disc golf course in Hanover’s Town Park.
The Town’s website has a page dedicated to the project. It describes the proposed splash pad as being about 275 square metres with a colourful design, concrete pad with in-ground and overhead water spray features, an accessible environment, lots of seating and shade options, push button start and timed shut off, and having a renovated, accessible washroom. They say there would be a safe and reliable water flow through system with a 5,000 gallon tank to capture greywater for other uses like watering flowers.
Dale and Cathy Cousins, owners of the Hanover Canadian Tire say in a statement “We knew from the minute we first met with the Fundraising Committee that it was a great idea and we wanted to be a part of the splash pad.”
Mayor Sue Paterson says, “We are incredibly grateful for the generous support from Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities and the Cousins family,” adding, “The Canadian Tire Splash Pad will be a shining example of what we can achieve when we come together for the betterment of our community. Moreover, this achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the committee members and the overwhelming support from our community. Together, we have made this project a reality.”
The Town says, while the initial fundraising goal has been met, they will continue to accept donations to the project, noting, “Any additional funds will help ensure that the project will serve as a vibrant new space for families and children to enjoy for years to come.”
