Kincardine Council has chosen to keep the piers open over the winter.
A recorded vote was taken during the council meeting held on November 27th.
The Pier Safety Committee had recommended to close both the north and south piers between November 1st to April 1st, in order to avoid safety concerns for residents as well as municipal staff tasked with maintaining the piers.
Councillor Bill Steward had initially recommended to move the start date for the closure to December 1st, citing snow and ice as the driver for the call for closure.
Only Deputy Mayor Andrea Clarke supported the amendment.
The rest of council voted against the recommendation, opting to keep the piers open year round.
The rationale was that a majority of safety calls to the piers happened during swimming season, rather than during the winter.
