South Bruce Peninsula Council has approved the Town’s 2025 Operating and Capital Budget.
It includes a 3.9 per cent tax levy increase.
This year’s budget will cover total net operating expenses of about $12.8 million, compared to $12.3 million in 2024.
Key infrastructure projects in 2025 include work on Mallory Beach Road, upgrades on Gould Street and Pengally, and phase two of the Berford Street Reconstruction.
The Town’s budget also includes roughly $2.7 million for OPP services, which is a 14.97 per cent increase from 2024.
They say in a statement, “While Council has no control over these rising costs, we are actively advocating for Provincial funding to help alleviate this burden on our community.”
The Town also says, to support the tourism economy, council has allocated a portion of the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) funds. They’ll go towards, a summer concert series in Wiarton’s Bluewater Park, data collection to support local businesses, Grey Transit Route funding, maintenance for Sauble Beach washrooms, visitor centre operations,a communications students position and other items provide accessibility upgrades for local businesses through the Town’s new Community Improvement Plan.
