The Ontario Government is helping to bring more EV chargers to the region.
As part of the government’s $63 million EV ChargeON Program Community Sites Stream, a total of 12 chargers will be installed across sties in Allenford, Durham, Lion’s Head, Owen Sound, Paisley, Sauble Beach, and Wiarton.
Simcoe-Grey MPP Brian Saunderson has also announced four chargers will be installed in Thornbury.
These stations will be a mix of level two and three chargers.
Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers says this investment from the province is separate from Bruce and Grey County’s efforts bring more EV chargers to the region.
“This is the province’s program as I understand it. It’s great that we are having a broader distribution of EV charging stations in our community,” says Byers.
He adds these charging stations are part of the ongoing effort to shift towards electric vehicles.
“The transition to electric vehicles is a long term program and has got many facets to it. With the focus the government has has on the production of electric vehicles in Ontario, there has been many great investments ongoing. As they develop and produce vehicles, at the same time we have to evolve our electric distribution system. That will involve more EV charging stations throughout Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound in the years to come,” says Byers.
Additionally, the province has launched a new Ultra-Low Overnight Electricity Price Plan to look at options for an EV charger discount rate, which could result in EV drivers saving up to $90 a year at charging stations.
