Grey Highlands is seeing an uptick in building activity compared to last year.
Council received an update to the number of building permits issued between July and September, which includes residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, and agricultural during its meeting on Nov. 6.
In July, the municipality saw a large jump in permits issued compared to 2023, with 75 in total versus the 35 issued last year. A significant portion of these came from detached homes, townhouses, and renovation permits, as well as four new agricultural buildings.
The trend continued in August with 59 permits issued this year compared to the 39 in 2023. Fourteen of those permits were granted for detached homes.
The gap closed a little in September with 46 issued this year versus the 44 in 2023. There were five detached residential permits issued and six new agricultural buildings.
Year-to-date, the municipality has issued 363 permits, beating out the 320 in 2023. Construction value, however, did not see as large an increase with $60.8 million compared to the $59.5 million last year.
